Copper/Silver ionization, side stream filtration and non-chemical scale control.
Plaza Companies - Director of Engineering (Ed Slye)
“Over the last several decades I have seen a lot of chemical-less systems that have not lived up to the hype and have caused detrimental damage to systems. That is the primary reason that so many in my field are so apprehensive about anything other than chemical systems. About a decade ago I installed systems that saved a lot of water and did not use chemicals. The problem however was that the cooling towers for these systems had be cleaned more frequently to function properly which resulted in more labor hours.
It has only been 2 years since installing our HydroPlex but I have never had a cooling tower that is as clean and stays as clean because of its continuous treatment process.”
Johnson Controls (Frank Gracia)
Frank maintains the towers which are used both for cooling of the office buildings and the process water loops for the automotive facility. Until the installation of the HydroPlex, the process water system had continuous problems with hard water scale formations. Extensive maintenance was required to remove the scale from the tower tubes. Shortly after the installation of the HydroPlex, the existing scale started falling off. Efficiency of the tower system improved and maintenance and chemical treatments for scale control has been eliminated. Maintenance and chemical costs have been eliminated resulting in thousands of dollars being saved each year.
USPS Canton, Ohio (Tom “Pappy”)
A BoilerPlex was installed for the boilers and hot water loop. Immediately after installation the BoilerPlex filters needed cleaning at least once each day as the previously existing scale and rust were being dislodged. After several months the system was clean and the filters now only need occasional cleaning to maintain clean clear water. A “Loop System” was installed on the chiller/chilled water loop. After the initial cleaning cycle, the water is now clear with no signs of corrosion or scale. Thousands of dollars have been saved each year in energy costs due to increased efficiency of the HVAC equipment.
Chase Bank (Gary Smith) 330 323 7353
A HydroPlex was installed on a new installation of a cooling tower, and a BoilerPlex was installed in the boiler loop in the spring of 2011. The boiler loop was heavily contaminated with circulating debris and bacteria. Excessive corrosion was occurring. After several weeks of operation, the loop was clean and the bacteria are eliminated. The new tower does not have any evidence of scale or algae formation and the water is clear. The customer has saved tens of thousands of dollars by the treatment units eliminating chemicals and excessive maintenance.
Peoria County (Dan O Connell)
Dan is the director of engineering for Peoria County. The water condition for Peoria is so severe that they changed chemical companies every few years trying to find a solution to the cooling tower/chiller issues. Due to the severity of the water, Quantum offered to install a HydroPlex for one season with the agreement that they would purchase the unit if it provided satisfactory results. The HydroPlex provided the results and Dan had QMS provide him with a proposal for several additional units including both BoilerPlex's for their boilers and Loops, and HydroPlexes for two other cooling towers. The savings in chemical and maintenance costs exceeded the cost of the HydroPlex in less than two years.
The 9 (Pete)
The 9 is a twenty nine story office, apartments and hotel in Cleveland. The owners wanted a chemical free, environmentally friendly, money saving water treatment system which would also eliminate Legionella. A HydroPlex was installed on the cooling towers and a Loop System was installed on the hot/chilled water loop. The systems have met all goals. The water is clean, clear and the tower basins did not need the normal extensive clean out at the end of the season. There has been no need for chemical treatments since the installation of the Quantum equipment resulting in considerable money savings each year.
Horizon Manufacturing (Chip)
Horizon is a manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Ohio. A HydroPlex was installed on the cooling tower the first year, and a Loop treatment system was installed on the process water loop the following year. While the water looked reasonably clean prior to the installation of the treatment systems, after installation the filters needed cleaning every few days due to the previous accumulations of scale and other debris in the customer’s equipment. The water is now clean and bacteria free. The filters now remain in service for several months before requiring any attention. Actual money savings have not been quantified yet, but elimination of all chemicals and increase of efficiency has been substantial.
The HydroPlex pulls water from the basin, filters, then treats the water and returns it to basin.
